How to convert N Gauge EFE Class 41 Warship to DCC Sound
This guide covers the EFE Class 41 'Warship' models.
- EFE Rail Class 41 'Warship' D600 'Active' in BR Blue livery (E84522)
- EFE Rail Class 41 'Warship' D601 'Ark Royal' in BR Green livery (E84523)
- EFE Rail Class 41 'Warship' D604 'Cossack' in BR Green livery (E84527)
Step 1 - Fit Speaker
This model does not come pre-fitted with a speaker, but is designed to make it fairly easy to fit one. The standard speaker that comes supplied with the ESU LokSound 5 Nano and Micro decoders will fit with a minor modification.
Pre-solder two wires to the speaker. Unclip the battery box and glue the speaker inside.
When dry, refit the battery box to the loco.
Step 2 - Connect Speaker to PCB
Unclip the body, then loosen the two screws holding the decoder PCB to the chassis. The wires are quite short, do be careful not to pull the PCB too far away from the chassis.
There are two solder pads for the speaker wires on the underside of the PCB, quite near the edge. Route the speaker wires along the gap in the chassis to here. Solder the wires onto the PCB.
Screw the PCB back down.
Step 3 - Fit Decoder
Fit your sound decoder into the Next18 socket (here an ESU LokSound 5 Nano is used). Clip the body back on, and the conversion is complete.
