Step 1 - Dummy End: Remove Body
First we will convert the dummy (non-motorized) car to DCC.
Remove the body by gently pulling upwards, starting at one end first.
Remove the two screws holding the PCB in place, and remove the PCB. If you are fitting a stayalive, cut out part of the seating in the middle to make room for it.
Step 2 - Fit Decoder
This model has a 6-pin socket. Here we are using an ESU LokPilot 5 Micro 6-pin decoder with an optional stayalive kit attached.
Fit the decoder into the socket, and position the stayalive kit using glue or blacktack.
Refit the PCB and clip the body back on.
Step 3 - Motorized End: Remove Body
Now for the more complicated task of fitting DCC sound to the motorized end.
Again, remove the body by gently pulling upwards, starting at one end first. Remove the two PCB screws, and then unclip the PCB.
Step 4 - Modify Seating
If fitting a stayalive, cut away some of the seating to make room.
Fit the stayalive kit and hold it in place with some glue or black tack.
Step 5 - Fit Sound Decoder
This model comes with a speaker pre-fitted. However, the PCB on top of it needs to be removed to create some space. Solder the speaker wires directly to the speaker terminals.
Fit the ESU LokSound 5 Nano decoder, using a 6-pin to Next18 adapter.
Add some kapton tape to hold everything in place.
