Kato Class 800 Interior Lighting Install

Mistakes may damage your locomotive, controller or other accessories. Use a multimeter to make absolutely sure you have completely isolated the motor from the track before testing. This guide shows how to install Kato light bars into the N Gauge Class 800 models. These are available from our online store in single units or multipacks of six.

This guide covers all versions of the Kato N Gauge Class 800 models, which are identical other than the liveries applied:

Step 1 - Remove Body

Remove the body by gently unclipping from the sides, and pushing upwards.

Step 2 - Insert Contact Strips

Unclip the dummy piece, which is situated next to the end of the lighting diffuser. Insert a contact strip into the slot, and push all the way in. Repeat for the other side.

Step 3 - Fit LED Unit

Clip the LED unit into place, making sure that the contact strip springs are both touching the vertical contacts on the LED unit.

Step 4 - Test

Place the unit on your test track and switch on the DCC power. The interior lighting should illuminate.

Step 5 - Refit Body

Refit the body and the conversion is complete.
